You are being asked to participate in a research study. The purpose of the study is to evaluate an interactive
gamified platform (3DChromoTwist) designed for Hi-C–based 3D genome structure reconstruction and to analyze gameplay
data to improve computational optimization strategies. Taking part in this study is voluntary, and choosing not to
take part will not affect your standing in any employment, class or other.
This research is being funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Your participation in this research study
involves interacting with an online game interface in which you will modify and refine simplified 3D chromatin
structures. The game records anonymous gameplay actions and performance metrics generated during your session. No
names, initials, IP addresses, or other personal identifiers will be collected. Your participation will take
approximately 5 – 10 minutes depending on how long it takes to solve the structure puzzle. It is your choice whether
or not you take part in this study. If you agree to participate and then choose to withdraw from the study, that is
your right, and your decision will not be held against you.
The research team anticipates that this research will benefit the advancement of computational approaches for 3D
genome structure reconstruction and support ongoing innovation in genomics and data-driven optimization methods.
This research study is not expected to pose any additional risks beyond what you would normally experience in your
regular everyday life. However, the possible risks specific to this research study include minor fatigue commonly
experienced in everyday activities. UNT does not provide medical services, or financial assistance for emotional
distress or injuries that might happen from participating in this research. If you do experience any discomfort,
please inform the research team. If your need is urgent, helpful resources include: National Suicide Prevention
Hotline at 988.
You will not receive compensation for participation.
The research team will gather no identifiable information from you.
Access to research study records will be limited to people who have a need to review this information. All paper and
electronic data collected from this study will be stored in a secure location on the UNT campus and/or a secure UNT
server for at least three (3) years past the end of this research.
The results of this study may be published and/or presented without naming you as a participant.
While absolute confidentiality cannot be guaranteed, the research team will make every effort to protect the
confidentiality of your records, as described here and to the extent permitted by law.
If you have any questions about the study, you may contact Dr. Oluwatosin Oluwadare at
Oluwatosin.Oluwadare@unt.edu. Any questions you have regarding your
rights as a research subject, or complaints about the research may be directed to the Office of Research Integrity
and Compliance at 940-565-4643, or by email at untirb@unt.edu.
